VesselsValue’s latest report shows a shift in shipbuilding activity during the first two months of 2025. A total of 184 bulk carriers, tankers, containerships, and gas carriers were ordered, reflecting a trend similar to 2021 and 2022, reports Safety4sea.
Containerships Lead New Orders
While bulk carriers and tankers dominated orders in early 2023 and 2024, containerships have taken the lead in 2025. A total of 66 containerships (36% of all orders) were placed, followed by 61 bulk carriers (33%).
Investment Focus on Containerships
The shift toward containerships is even more evident in order value. So far in 2025, containership orders have reached $7.9 billion, making up 76% of the total $10.4 billion allocated for bulk carriers, tankers, containerships, and gas carriers.
