VINSSEN’s 60kW Hydrogen Fuel Cell Stack Earns Type Approval For Maritime Use

80

South Korea-based maritime decarbonization specialist VINSSEN has achieved a major milestone with the Type Approval certification of its 60kW hydrogen fuel cell stack. The certification confirms the stack’s durability, safety, and operational reliability for use in maritime environments—paving the way for zero-emission propulsion in shipping.

Certified for Maritime Excellence

The Type Approval process, conducted in accordance with strict IEC standards, involved comprehensive environmental and performance tests. VINSSEN’s 60kW stack successfully passed all evaluations, including rigorous vibration and dielectric strength tests. These tests confirmed the stack’s structural resilience and electrical safety under challenging marine conditions, ensuring suitability for shipboard integration.

A Foundation for Next-Gen Hydrogen Propulsion

VINSSEN is already building on this success by developing a 150kW high-capacity fuel cell stack and a fuel cell power system powered by reformed gas (75% hydrogen, 25% nitrogen). These advancements aim to support megawatt-class systems for larger vessels, significantly expanding the application of hydrogen propulsion in the maritime sector.

Driving Decarbonization in Global Shipping

VINSSEN’s innovation aligns with global efforts to meet the International Maritime Organization’s decarbonization goals. Certified hydrogen fuel cells are critical to reducing emissions, improving energy efficiency, and enabling clean propulsion technologies across the shipping industry. Collaborations like these highlight a shared commitment to a sustainable maritime future.
