Wallenius Marine unveiled its latest vessel, Future Way, utilizing the innovative Sleipner design concept, at a christening event in Emden, Germany on 23 September. Future Way features advanced hydro- and aerodynamic design to help minimize emissions, energy consumption, and environmental impact. The vessel, the first of two car carriers, will be chartered by Volkswagen for transportation between Europe and North America, reports Wallenius Marine.

With the Sleipner concept and the Future Way vessel, Wallenius Marine and Danish design firm KNUD E. HANSEN have raised the bar for innovation in the Pure Car and Truck Carriers (PCTC) segment.
“A distinctive feature is that the ship, thanks to its innovative design, can cross the Atlantic without ballast water in loaded condition. This both reduces the risk of spreading invasive species and makes the vessel lighter, leading to lower fuel consumption.” says Finn Wollesen, Managing Director of KNUD E. HANSEN.
Cargo capacity
The vessel has a cargo capacity equivalent to 6,500 cars and employs an efficient centre ramp system for loading and unloading, utilizing a long ramp serving all decks.
Crew members on the vessel have access to a gym, recreational facilities, and modern social areas in line with the traditional Wallenius concept of the ship as ‘a home away from home’. The christening event was attended by approximately 80 participants and was officiated by the ship’s lady sponsor, German-born artist Milana Schoeller, who currently resides and works in Sweden.
