Wärtsilä Signs 10-Year Lifecycle Agreement With Baleària For High-Speed Ro-Pax Ferry

Technology group Wärtsilä has entered a ten-year Lifecycle Agreement with Spanish ferry operator Baleària, covering its new high-speed Ro-Pax ferry, Margarita Salas. Built at Astilleros Armon Gijon in Spain, the ferry features advanced Wärtsilä technology, ensuring high efficiency, environmental sustainability, and passenger comfort.

Cutting-edge technology for Optimal Performance

Margarita Salas operates with:

  • Four Wärtsilä 31DF dual-fuel engines (capable of running on LNG).
  • Four Wärtsilä WXJ hydraulic waterjets for high-speed operation.
  • Two Wärtsilä LNGPac fuel storage and supply systems.

A sister ship, Eleanor Roosevelt, was previously delivered with the same Wärtsilä components.

Wärtsilä’s Miguel Sanchez emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting ferry operators, with 37 vessels currently under long-term agreements.

Margarita Salas serves the Barcelona – Alcudia – Ciudadela route, connecting mainland Spain with the Balearic Islands, ensuring fast, efficient, and sustainable ferry operations.
