Wärtsilä To Equip Höegh Gandria With LNG Regasification For Egypt’s Energy Infrastructure

86

Wärtsilä Gas Solutions, a division of the Wärtsilä technology group, has secured a significant contract to supply a state-of-the-art regasification module for the LNG carrier Hoegh Gandria.

The vessel will be converted into a high-capacity Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) to serve the Egyptian energy market.

This project reinforces Wärtsilä’s leading role in LNG regasification technology and supports Egypt’s strategic goals of energy diversification and sustainability.

Conversion of Hoegh Gandria into a Floating Regasification Terminal

Wärtsilä’s regasification module will be installed onboard Hoegh Gandria, transforming the LNG carrier into a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU). This conversion allows the vessel to act as a mobile import terminal capable of regasifying LNG onboard and supplying natural gas to local networks.

The Hoegh Gandria is scheduled to be deployed at the port of Sumed, Egypt, where it will provide the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company with up to 1,000 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscf/day) of peak regasification capacity. This high capacity makes the unit a vital part of Egypt’s energy infrastructure, offering flexible and scalable energy import solutions.

Long-standing Partnership and Strategic Importance

The collaboration between Wärtsilä and Höegh Evi spans over two decades, highlighting a strong partnership built on trust, proven technology, and innovative solutions. Höegh Evi, recognized globally for its leadership in floating storage and regasification units, selected Wärtsilä for their proven quality, reliability, and efficient technology.

This project not only underlines Wärtsilä’s strategic commitment to decarbonization and innovation but also aligns with Egypt’s goals to diversify its energy sources, enhancing energy security and supporting sustainable growth.

The Wärtsilä regasification module installation on Hoegh Gandria represents a significant advancement in marine energy infrastructure, supporting Egypt’s evolving energy needs. With delivery slated for Q2 2026 and project completion by Q4 2026, this initiative exemplifies the importance of flexible, efficient LNG solutions in the global transition towards cleaner energy.

The ongoing partnership between Wärtsilä and Höegh Evi stands as a testament to industry leadership in delivering cutting-edge technology that meets critical energy demands worldwide
