Technology leader Wärtsilä will deliver an integrated propulsion package for a new vessel owned by U.K.-based tanker operator Pritchard-Gordon Tankers Ltd. (PGT). This marks the third such vessel in PGT’s fleet renewal program to adopt Wärtsilä’s solutions, underscoring the company’s focus on efficiency and emissions reduction. The order, finalized in Q3 2024, reflects Wärtsilä’s commitment to sustainable maritime innovation.

The propulsion solution includes:

  • Wärtsilä 32 Main Engine: Fuel-flexible and designed for current and future sustainable fuels.
  • Gearbox and Shaft Generator System: Ensures optimized power transmission.
  • Controllable Pitch Propeller (CPP): Enhances manoeuvrability and efficiency.
  • Wärtsilä EnergoPac Efficiency Rudder: Reduces drag for improved performance.
  • ProTouch Propulsion Control System: Provides advanced control capabilities.
  • Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) System: Supports compliance with stringent emission regulations.
  • Open Water Lubricated Sterntube: Promotes environmentally sound operation.

Commitment to Sustainability

Richard Groves, New Build Manager at PGT, expressed confidence in Wärtsilä’s technology, noting its pivotal role in achieving fleet efficiency and adaptability for future fuels.

Vessel and Construction Details

  • Ship Design: By FKAB Marine Design.
  • Construction Site: China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Yangzhou) Dingheng.
  • Delivery Schedule:
    • Equipment for the first two vessels in 2024 (ordered Q3 2023).
    • Equipment for the third vessel is scheduled for delivery between 2025 and 2026.
