[Watch] A Christmas Tree Goes To Sea

7

Every Christmas, a remarkable tradition takes place off the coast of Eastbourne. A Christmas tree is carefully loaded onto a small fishing boat and taken on a seven-mile journey to isolated lightships at sea.

Members of the Order of Crusaders undertake the heartfelt task of delivering Christmas trees and presents to crews serving aboard vessels such as the Royal Sovereign. For sailors spending the festive season far from home, this simple gesture means more than words can say.

Though life at sea spares them some of the worries of Christmas ashore, it also means missing the warmth, laughter, and family celebrations. That’s why the arrival of a Christmas tree and gifts brings joy, comfort, and a reminder that they are not forgotten.

A timeless story of kindness, tradition, and Christmas spirit on the open sea.
