According to USCG, a towboat pushing several dozen barges struck a railroad bridge in Vicksburg, Mississippi on Tuesday morning, while nine barges containing coal broke away and two barges sank in the incident.
The Army Corps of Engineers and a surveyor are examining the sunken barges to determine whether they pose a hazard to navigation. The railroad bridge will remain closed until it is inspected. No injuries or pollution were reported. An investigation is underway.
