[Watch] Brother of Captain of Gujarat Vessel Carrying 1500kg Heroin

A ship was taken into custody by the Indian Coast Guard officials after it was found in possession of 1500kg of heroin.

What happened?

The Panama registered ship ‘MV Henry’ was seized by the Indian Coast Guard based on a tip off by the Intelligence Bureau and the local police of Gujarat.

Heroin seized:

A whopping 1500 kg valued around Rs.3500 crore was seized by the officials. The Coast Guard received information from intelligence sources about the entry of the drug consignment to Mumbai via Gujarat.

Intercepted by Coast Guard:

The vessel was apprehended by Coast Guard ship ‘Samudra Pavak’, a pollution control vessel of the Coast Guard fleet.

A Defence spokesperson said, “The Indian Coast Guard ship ‘Samudra Pavak’ intercepted and apprehended a merchant vessel carrying approximately 1,500 kg of heroin valued at around Rs 3,500 crore, from a merchant vessel off the Gujarat coast, a defence spokesperson said in a statement released on Sunday afternoon. Based on intelligence inputs, the vessel was intercepted at around 1200 hrs yesterday. This is the largest single haul of narcotics seized till date”.

Brother of the Captain arrested:

Around 8 to 10 people onboard the ship were arrested by the officials. The Captain of the ship Suprit Tiwari was arrested and based on his input his 22-year old brother Sujit, was detained on Sunday from Entally area in central Kolkata.

The younger brother had allegedly received Rs.100 crore on behalf of his Captain brother to transport the heroine to Mumbai via the shipping vessel.
