On May 29, a bulk carrier ran aground at the edge of a shipping canal while entering the Sienfuegos Bay.
What happened?
The bulk carrier ‘Destiny’ ran aground at the edge of the shipping canal while entering the Sienfuegos Bay near Jagua.
The bulk carrier had arrived in Cuban waters after having sailed from Ho Chi Minh port on April 3 with a cargo of 28.000 tons of rice.
Diver assess situation
Divers were deployed to survey the underwater hull, but no leaks were reported. The ship was dragged out of the fairway by strong currents caused by the intense floods after the passage of the storm Alberto.
It was successfully refloated and towed to an anchorage in the Sienfuegos Bay with the help of a tug.
