What happened?
Moored capesize bulk carrier CHINA STEEL GROWTH in Kaohsiung Harbor in front of the container terminal, broke off her moorings as a strong storm hit Kaohsiung at around 0400 LT (UTC +8) Aug 4.
Contact with berthed ship
Giant ship drifted astern, and contacted by stern berthed WAN HAI container ship. Both the ships were reported to be damaged.
According to reports, a gantry crane was also contacted, but with just a few sparks.
The contacted container ship WAN HAI 162 left harbor after unmooring at around 0830 LT, and was anchored at Kaohsiung outer anchorage. As of 1630 UTC, she remained in the same position.
