The SpaceX Falcon the masterless rocket exploded after successfully delivering an ocean monitoring satellite to orbit. The rocket was planned to set upright on its rocking football field-sized landing pad, a floating ocean barge called Of Course I Still Love You. The attempt succeeded initially then one of the rocket’s legs collapsed, the rocket fell down and exploded.
The rocket company had managed a historic first controlled return of an orbital stage last month. The company aims toward a future of cheaper, reusable rockets.
