A viral video is doing rounds on the social network shows a ferry ship carrying hundreds of tourists burst into flames.
What happened?
The Greek ship ‘Eleftherios Venizelos’ carrying hundreds of tourists burst into flames forcing passengers to evacuate in the middle of the night. The vessel was enroute from a port near Athens to Crete when the incident occurred.
The video was captured at the exact moment the vessel burst into flames.
Passengers evacuated
The 1000 passengers onboard the vessel were evacuated safely in the middle of the night.
Origin of fire
The fire is reported to have originated from the car parking compartment which spread to the other parts of the ship.
An investigation has been initiated to determine the sequence of events leading to the incident. The vessel was forced to return to the port of Piraeus in Athens before the blaze was tackled.
