[Watch] Hole in the Hull at Markelo

On March 4, a fire brigade was called in after a cargo vessel developed a leak due to a hole in the hull.

What happened?

The cargo vessel ‘Esther’ enroute from Hengelo was berthed at the Industry way in Markelo after it suffered a leak. The fire brigade in Markelo was called to pump water into a tank.

The vessel was carrying a consignment of salt and the water was pumped into the tank ashore to prevent leakage of oil into the Twente canal.

Hole patched

Eventually, the divers were called in to carry out inspection and upon arrival, they were able to locate the hole in the hull. Operations are underway to patch the hole in the hull of the ship to prepare it to proceed towards its destination.
