The India Maritime Week 2025 (27-31 October) set a bold vision to position India as a global maritime leader by 2047 through innovation and strategic investment.

The DD India news channel explained in a video how the event showcased cutting-edge technologies, financing tools, and policy reforms aimed at transforming India’s coastal and shipping landscape. At the core of these initiatives is a blue economy, charting a course towards greener ports, smarter logistics, and a more resilient maritime future.

Driving these reforms and the maritime Amrit Kaal vision are the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and NITI Aayog. Their goal is to triple India’s trade share and establish the country as a global leader in the maritime sector by 2047.

Promoting India’s blue economy initiatives

The event also promoted coastal development via green infrastructure, clean energy, and resilient logistics, featuring low-emission ships, AI logistics, and smart ports.

You will be happy to know that we are currently generating 7 megawatts of renewable power: five megawatts of solar and two megawatts of wind. With that renewable power, we are meeting the entire energy requirement of the port. We are also going to add six megawatts of additional wind power. With that, we’ll be offsetting complete carbon emissions at our port. We may be becoming the first carbon-neutral port in the country, possibly by March,” commented Susanta Kumar Purohit, Chairman, VOC Port Authority in DD India’s video.

Furthermore, during the event, Maersk announced a series of strategic initiatives to strengthen its long-term commitment to India’s maritime sector through significant investments in port infrastructure, vessel reflagging, and deeper local partnerships.

Advancing digitalization and efficiency

Digitalization and efficiency are also key priorities, with efforts underway to reduce transit time, customs clearance procedures, and other processes through digital transformation and technology. Pilot initiatives are planned to explore tangible projects and collaborations between countries.

During the Week, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Maritime Cooperation was signed between India and the Netherlands, along with a Letter of Intent to establish a Green and Digital Sea Corridor connecting Indian ports with the Port of Rotterdam.

I’m looking forward to running some pilots over the course of the next years. The letter of intent was one thing. I would like to have some tangible projects in the coming years between our countries,” said Robert Tieman, Minister of Water Management of the Netherlands in the video.
