Robotic technology in shipping

Under the scope of the MoU the companies will work on a joint study to introduce MELTIN’s remote-control robotic technology into MOL’s ocean shipping-related operations.

The technology is being developed with the assumption that it will be used in dangerous areas, time time-consuming work, or in extremely high and low-temperature environments.

The companies say they will push for more discussion and action to study different vessel types and routes for the introduction of remotely controlled robots and associated technologies, with an eye toward not only determining the feasibility of introduction and the level of onboard telecommunication technology required at sea, but also implementing Proof of Concept (PoC).
