Surveillance footage released by police shows the moment an NYPD Aviation officer swooped in to rescue an injured man aboard a cargo vessel before lifting him to safety.
The NYPD was notified by the Coast Guard about an injured 22-year-old man aboard the ship — which belonged to Spring Sunshine Corp. — roughly 20 nautical miles southeast of Floyd Bennett Field around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, police said.
A police chopper responded and an NYPD medic rappelled to the deck to reach the victim and render aid, according to police.
Great Job by NYPD Aviation & ESU when they hoisted an aided from a ship 20 miles offshore. Aided was taken to a hospital to be evaluated.
The injured man was taken to Staten Island University Medical Center with chest and abdominal pains and a severe headache, according to police.
It was not clear how he was hurt.
