A Marine Insight video shows a pilot boarding a moving ship in extreme winter conditions. The footage was supposedly shot by a drone near the coast of Hailuoto in Finland.
A thrilling footage
The video captures the thrilling moment a ship pilot boards a moving vessel. This isn’t just any ordinary ship boarding—it’s an adrenaline-fueled feat of precision and timing.
Ice 20 inches thick surrounded the 190-metre-long ship, the Tavastland, as it travelled through the shipping route while on its way to Finland’s Port of Oulu, the largest multipurpose port in the Bothnian Bay and a key logistics hub for Northern Europe.
The vessel in the video is M/V Tavastland, a 2006-built Ro-Ro cargo vessel owned by Wallenius Lines AB. The ship travels on the Baltic Sea from the northern to the southern basins on a roughly bi-weekly schedule. The vessel appears to be moving slowly, however, it is not so. One miss, and it could be fatal.
