[Watch] Skagway Rock Avalanche Crushes A Cruise Ship Pier

778

On Wednesday at around 5 o’clock, a modest but audible rockslide happened on Railroad Dock in Skagway. There were no alleged injuries. The slide is situated in the region known as the north slide, which is also where a slide happened on June 23.

In tiny boats provided by Holland America’s Noordam, another ship in port, passengers from the Norwegian Encore were being tendered back to it. The Majestic Princess and Radiance of the Sea were other ships that were docked today.

According to reports, pebbles struck the guard booth at the dock. Ships have been repositioned out of the way of the rockslide, but the area is still unstable. A recent analysis provided by contracted geotechnical engineers demonstrates that the site’s slip risk persists.

The busiest cruise ship port in Alaska is Skagway.
