Brazilian Navy tall ship collided with pedestrian bridge connecting Guayaquil to Santay Island, Ecuador, at around 1330 LT Oct 18, while leaving the port after a visit, reports Maritime Bulletin.
What happened?
The vessel developed heavy list, but returned to even keel with the help of tugs, one of them which was holding the bow, was pulled back and alongside, and capsized.
Understood very strong current and maneuvering control miscalculations have been the culprits.
The ship remains at Guayaquil for inspection and investigation. No injures reported. By 1400 LT, she was released from the bridge.
