A German-flagged vessel, ran aground and headed straight towards shore. The ship was en route from Yokohama, Japan to Chiwan port, Shenzhen, China when a sudden veer off the course made the vessel run aground. The crew dropped the anchor at the last-minute with loud screeching noises as it headed straight towards the sea wall outside the University of Hong Kong sports grounds in Pok Fu Lam.
The Marine, Police and fire services rushed to the site. The ship reversed slowly and eventually towed freely.
