German shipyard Scheepswerf Ferus Smit has launched Thun Resource, the first of six R-class tankers for Thun Tankers
The 7,999-dwt Ice Class 1A Thun Resource was launched in a festive event on-site at the yard in Leer, Germany and named by Godmother Ulrika Hamill, a representative of the charterer Nynas AB.
Upon delivery, Thun Resource will be technically managed by MF Shipping Group and enter into a five-year charter to Nynas AB. The first of six ordered R-class sisters that will be built by Scheepswerf Ferus Smit BV, with delivery from 2024 onwards, will feature adaptive propulsion to minimise energy use, be ready for a shore electricity connection, include a UPS battery pack and feature an efficient hull profile. The ordered vessels are part of Thun Tankers fleet renewal programme and are tailor-made to meet the client’s future demands.
