- The Ever Ace, the world’s biggest container ship, is continuing its maiden voyage this week and soon heading for the Suez Canal.
- It is a newer class of ship than the Ever Given, which blocked the Suez Canal for six days in March.
- The Ever Ace is set to leave Suffolk for Rotterdam on Wednesday before itself traversing the Suez.
The world’s largest container ship, the Ever Ace, has moored in the UK town of Felixstowe in Suffolk, reports an article published in Insider.
The massive vessel is part of a newer breed of container ship than the Ever Given, which famously stopped the Suez Canal for six days in March. The Ever Ace is an Evergreen A-class ship with a cargo capacity of 23,992 units. This is an increase from the Ever Given, an Evergreen G-class ship, which can carry 20,124 cargo units.
Route
Even after some ships chose to abandon the Suez Canal and reroute, a vast detour around the southern tip of Africa, a logjam of over 400 ships formed. The gigantic Ever Given was towed from the Suez after nearly a week of dredging and drilling, a costly endeavour that caused Egyptian authorities to seize the Ever Given on April 13 and keep it for months. The Ever Given landed at Rotterdam on July 29 with more than 20,000 containers on board, 106 days after it became stuck in the canal and after the ship’s owner, Shoei Kisen Kaisha, reached an undisclosed compensation agreement with the Suez Canal Authority.
