On February 13, a vessel reportedly suffered water ingress 16 miles off Constanta in the Black Sea.
What happened?
The vessel ‘Delfi’ was loaded with diesel with seven crew members onboard the vessel when it suffered water ingress in the engine room, 16 miles off Constanta in the Black Sea.
The master of the vessel reported a crack in the engine room with ensuing water ingress, causing an engine failure and the risk of sinking.
Tug dispatched
A SAR tug ‘Topaz’ was dispatched to the site to rescue the crew members if required but it was deemed too small to carry out salvage operations.
Meanwhile the weather deteriorated, and the ship continued to take on water in unmanageable quantities. Around late at night, at the request of the MRCC Constanta, the “GSP King” left the port of Constanţa port and arrived at the site and took the tanker in tow to Constanta at a speed of 5 knots.
The Captain of the vessel was provided medical care upon arrival and the vessel has been docked at Constanta port until further repairs are carried out.
