Weathernews Extends Contract With Saga Welco

  • Weathernews has announced a multi-year extension of its Total Fleet Management Solution (TFMS) contract with Saga Welco.
  • This renewed agreement extends their partnership, which has already spanned over 19 years.

Saga Welco, an international shipping company specializing in the transportation of forest products, breakbulk, project cargo, and bulk cargoes, operates a fleet of 48 Open Hatch Gantry Crane vessels. Established in 2014 through a joint venture between NYK and Westfal-Larsen, Saga Welco has long relied on Weathernews’ advanced weather intelligence and maritime operations software.

Fleet Optimization and Safety

As per the new contract, Saga Welco will continue to utilize Weathernews’ suite of weather routing and vessel optimization solutions. This collaboration aims to enhance the safety and efficiency of Saga Welco’s fleet while supporting their environmental and commercial objectives. Weathernews’ SeaNavigator solution is important in operational improvements, aligning with Saga Welco’s commitment to both efficiency and sustainability.

Networking Event Insights

The announcement follows a networking event hosted by Weathernews on June 12th in Copenhagen. The event featured a presentation by Helge Røttingen, Vessel Performance Manager at Saga Welco, who discussed the long-standing partnership with Weathernews. Røttingen emphasized the significant return on investment achieved through Weathernews’ solutions and their critical role in enhancing voyage performance and safety.

Røttingen commented, “Weathernews’ intelligent weather routing and risk management solutions are essential for ensuring the safety of our vessels, crew, and cargo while minimizing environmental impact.”

Investors on the Tools

Helge Røttingen expressed confidence in the ongoing collaboration, highlighting the importance of optimizing fleet performance while enhancing safety, efficiency, and environmental responsiveness. He noted that Weathernews’ tools and data-driven insights are vital for achieving operational goals and maintaining a commitment to sustainability.

Kjærgaard, EU Director of Business Development at Weathernews, expressed enthusiasm for the renewed partnership. “We are thrilled with the continued trust Saga Welco places in our expertise.
