Weekly Outlook: TMC Selected to Supply Compressors for 12 Next-Generation Container Ships

TMC Compressors announced that it has been chosen to deliver the marine compressed-air systems for 12 new container ships being constructed for Hapag-Lloyd. The vessels, each designed with a capacity of 16,800 TEU, are being built at Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding and represent the latest step in expanding the owner’s advanced fleet.

TMC stated that each vessel will receive a complete compressed-air package, including two marine compressors and the associated air-treatment system. One of these compressors will feature frequency-controlled technology, supporting the onboard Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system. This setup is designed to help the newbuilds manage nitrogen oxide emissions more efficiently.

According to the company, the order reflects the shipowner’s focus on new units equipped with updated propulsion concepts and modern environmental features. As a result, TMC’s system is engineered to support the vessels’ operational profile while meeting the requirements set for future fleets.

In addition, TMC highlighted that the agreement aligns with its role as a supplier dedicated solely to marine and offshore compressed-air solutions. The company will deliver the equipment to the shipyard ahead of installation, with the supply timeline coordinated with the construction schedule for the 12 ships.

This development contributes to the ongoing build program for the fleet, and it reinforces the long-standing cooperation between the shipowner, the shipyard, and TMC. The company noted that it continues to support a wide range of newbuild projects where energy-efficient air systems are required for critical onboard operations.
