- The President 100 is Singapore’s first harbour vessel fully powered by 100% biodiesel (B100), launched to support maritime decarbonization.
- A 1,000-hour trial in port waters will evaluate B100’s real-world performance, emissions, and reliability.
- The project is a joint effort by Weichai, CCS (Singapore), NTU’s MESD Centre, and Pinnacle Marine to establish biodiesel vessel standards.
Singapore has officially introduced the “President 100,” a 16-metre harbour vessel that operates entirely on B100 biodiesel. Designed as part of the nation’s clean energy initiatives, the vessel is equipped with two Weichai WP13C450-18BF marine engines and two CCFJ20J-W5BF generator sets, providing the main propulsion and power systems, according to PR Newswire.
Collaboration and Development
The vessel is a result of collaborative innovation involving Weichai, China Classification Society (Singapore), Nanyang Technological University’s Marine Energy and Sustainable Development Centre (MESD), and Pinnacle Marine. This partnership aims to advance alternative fuels in maritime transport and showcase the operational feasibility of B100.
Operational Testing and Performance Trials
Built by Pinnacle Marine, the President 100 will undergo a 1,000-hour continuous sea trial within Singapore’s port waters. This extensive testing phase will monitor the fuel’s performance over time, assess emission levels, and ensure engine durability. The data gathered will inform the development of future operational guidelines for biodiesel vessels.
A Step Toward Maritime Decarbonization
B100 biodiesel presents a viable and immediate option for reducing carbon emissions in the shipping industry. Weichai’s advanced marine engines are specially calibrated for B100 use, ensuring both efficiency and lower environmental impact. This initiative contributes directly to Singapore’s broader maritime decarbonization goals.
Setting Standards and Inspiring Change
The President 100 project is expected to become a benchmark for clean-energy maritime operations in Singapore and beyond. It aims to influence the establishment of industry-wide standards for biodiesel usage, offering a model for other ports and shipbuilders worldwide to follow in transitioning toward sustainable marine energy.
