Wharf Collapses After Tug Pushes Barge into Structure

On May 7, a portion of a wharf behind Mardi Gras World collapsed into the Mississippi River after a tugboat lost its steering and pushed four barges into the structure.

What happened?

The tugboat ‘Steve Richoux’ lost its steering control and pushed four barges into the structure in the port of New Orleans Place near Mardi Gras World.

Wharf damaged

The wharf suffered significant damages to the wharf and some damage to an adjacent building after the collision involving the tugboat. The reason for the vessel losing its steering power is unknown.

The accident happened near the inaugural ball of Mayor LaToya Cantrell.

No injuries

No injuries or pollution to the environment was reported. The traffic on the river was not affected due to the collision.

Mardi Gras World issued a statement on its website said it would be closed until further notice.
