- WHO says no conclusive data yet on the need for a COVID-19 booster shot
- when some countries afford to have the booster and others are not even vaccinating the first and second round, it’s a moral issue
- current data does not indicate that COVID-19 booster shots are needed
- most vulnerable people worldwide should be fully vaccinated before high-income countries deploy a top-up
The World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Wednesday that the data on the benefits and safety of a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot is inconclusive says an article on Reuters.
Vaccine boosters- not conclusive
“When some countries afford to have the booster and others are not even vaccinating the first and second round, it’s a moral issue,”. WHO chief chief scientist Soumya Swaminathan told the briefing that the consensus from a recent meeting of researchers and regulatory experts was that data on the need for COVID-19 vaccine boosters was “not conclusive”.
Fully vaccinate the vulnerable
The WHO said last week current data does not indicate that COVID-19 booster shots are needed and that the most vulnerable people worldwide should be fully vaccinated before high-income countries deploy a top-up.
