The Partnership Asked Wärtsilä Why?

part

An international exhibition for the global shipping industry held once in every two years, was organised at Posidonia 2016, wherein the official launch of ‘The Partnership’ was done.  The launch familiarised The PartnerShip as a pioneering project fetching all stakeholders of shipping together to form awareness, educate and fundraise for good causes as an industry.

Following Posidonia 2014, the best resourceful minds were approached as project partners to create the perfect platform for delivering this global initiative.  One of those was Wärtsilä, a global leader in complete lifecycle power solutions for the marine and energy markets.  Andy Ford, GM Marketing, Europe, Africa & Americas, Wärtsilä Marine Solutions, speaks about the business and the reason for keen support to ‘The PartnerShip’.

Reasons for Wärtsilä willingness to be one of the main project partners

After initial discussions with Mike Porter, Director of project partner Podium 4, at the Posidonia 2014 exhibition, Andy Ford became personally interested in the project.  However, from a Wärtsilä viewpoint, this not only provides a good platform for floating funds for good causes, it’s a great & modern digital enabler to encourage and teach people about the presently available and developing technologies pertinent to the marine industry.

Today, Wärtsilä is more concentrated than ever on supporting all marine stakeholders. Whether we talk about areas such as the need for environmental compliance, operational efficiencies or fuel flexibility, Innovation is always at the forefront of our marine industry strategy.  As a virtual billboard for highlighting our innovative technologies, this project fits the bill.

Nature of service Wärtsilä provide to the project

The Wärtsilä product portfolio is continually growing in line with our customers ever changing needs, and we now cover every marine segment in one way or another, including our ship design services.  We have already developed a hybrid ship design concept, which forms the basis of the ship illustrated on The PartnerShip website.  It has been a pleasure to support this project, and I am very excited to have been a part of the brain storming process from the beginning.

Partnership complement Wärtsilä’s objectives

The PartnerShip initiative provides an impressive digital platform to further promote Wärtsilä’s technologies in the modern world.  In addition, we can further educate the industry by communicating, shoulder to shoulder, the availability of ‘Wärtsilä Encyclopaedia of Marine Technology’ on the website.  This provides definitions to the current terminology used in the marine industry.  Of course, it goes without saying that as a marine technology leader, this tool aligns with our customer values as well.  In particular, we work hard to ensure enhancement for their businesses by providing innovative products and integrated solutions that are safe, environmentally sustainable, efficient, flexible, and economically sound.

Supports offered to The PartnerShip in getting the maritime industry involved

We are helping to promote, communicate, and encourage the industry to get involved by utilising various marketing channels and platforms incorporated within our total SMM approach this year.  SMM is the leading international maritime trade fair, and will take place in Hamburg, Germany from 06 to 09 September 2016.

In addition, I have been a project member, providing insight towards the project planning and supporting activities.  The PartnerShip project was originally launched at Posidonia 2016 on the Wärtsilä Stand.  For SMM 2016, The PartnerShip will be utilising the Wärtsilä digital lounge in Hall B6, stand 312 at 3pm Thursday the 8th September, to provide more information to potential sponsors.  Information will also be available at our ‘free coffee stand’ outside engine hall A4.  We are proud to be a partner and sponsor of this great initiative.
