  • The company expanded its market share by 50% in tanker services, handling 14% of Clean Petroleum Product (CPP) vessels monthly.
  • Investments in technology and customer service, including the WS Connect portal, have strengthened operations across Brazil’s major ports.

Wilson Sons, a leader in Brazil’s port and maritime logistics, reported a significant 60% growth in services provided to oil and petroleum product vessels in the first seven months of 2024, compared to the previous year. During this period, over 180 vessels were attended, with tankers importing fuel, exporting crude oil, and conducting ship-to-ship transfers for refined products, reports AJOT.

Expanded Market Share in Tanker Services

The Shipping Agency expanded its market share in the tanker services segment by more than 50% in 2024.

It also handled 14% of the monthly calls of ships carrying Clean Petroleum Products (CPPs), such as gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel, in the Brazilian market.

Boosting Market Intelligence and Technology Investments

Wilson Sons has strengthened its operations through investments in market intelligence and technology. The company introduced WS Connect, an online portal for customers, enhancing data access and operation tracking.

“Our growth in the segment is a reflection of the group’s strength, its financial soundness, and the operational expertise of its teams,” said Flávia Carvalho, executive director of Wilson Sons’ Shipping Agency.

“As Brazil’s leading independent shipping agency, we are present in virtually all Brazilian ports that operate oil and petroleum products, with proprietary offices, and exclusive representatives in Europe and an office in China to serve our clients.”

Extensive Port Coverage and Global Reach

The company operates in almost all Brazilian ports handling oil and petroleum products, including prominent ones like the Port of Açu, Salvador, and Itaqui. Wilson Sons also maintains a presence in Europe and China while supporting global clients.

The largest vessels served by Wilson Sons, VLCCs (Very Large Crude Carriers), operate at the T-Oil terminal in Açu, with China as a key destination.

Moderate Industry Growth and Rising Demand

Between January and July 2024, the shipping industry saw a modest 2% growth in calls involving oil vessels, driven by diesel imports and gasoline exports. Despite this moderate growth, Brazilian fuel demand is expected to increase by 1.3% or 2 billion liters in 2024.

Long-term forecasts suggest further import growth until 2028, followed by fluctuations in demand through 2034.

Supporting New Market Players in Oil Industry Operations

Wilson Sons’ Shipping Agency has been actively supporting new players in the oil and petroleum products industry, helping structure operations in various ports.

This includes coordination with port authorities, documentation, and strategic planning to ensure smooth operations.

Enhancing Customer Experience

To ensure quality and standardization, the company has developed a dedicated customer experience team, overseeing every step of operations from ship naming to final costing.

Additionally, client workshops are held to provide insights into different port operations, enhancing the customer experience.

WS Connect: Real-Time Operation Tracking

Wilson Sons offers clients access to WS Connect, a platform that allows real-time tracking of ship operations, with features such as ship information, documents, photos, and videos.

The portal also provides market data, vessel lineups, and customized reports, accessible via mobile devices.

“Our structure, with 20 offices on the Brazilian coast, market intelligence materials with qualified data, such as vessel lineup and customized reports, as well as port handbooks, are our distinctive features. We also provide WS Connect, which allows our clients to track ship operations even via mobile. Users have real-time access to ship information, documents, photos and videos, in addition to dashboards with market data and analyses, and more,” says Carolina Andrade, commercial specialist at the Shipping Agency.

Strong Customer Relations and Service Excellence

Simon Leon, shipping executive at Ream, a subsidiary of the Atem Group, praised Wilson Sons for their excellent customer service and collaborative work.

“The Atem Group has always received excellent service from Wilson Sons’ agency team on commercial, operational and documentary affairs. We greatly cherish our years-long collaboration and we hope to continue this joint work,” Leon said.

Continuing Growth and Future Plans

Wilson Sons plans to enhance its fleet and expand services to more regional trades and global markets. With 20 offices along the Brazilian coast and proprietary port intelligence materials, the company aims to continue offering high-quality logistics solutions to meet the growing demand.
