WISTA Celebrates Achievements in Annual Awards Ceremony

The annual WISTA Hellas Gala Dinner and Award Ceremony was held on 9 December 2024, celebrating exceptional contributions to leadership and service in the maritime environment. Under the new Presidency of Vivi Kolliopoulou, an evening of recognition and celebration was shared by members and supporters of the maritime community, reports Safety4Sea.

A Festive Evening of Recognition

Welcoming attendees, Ms. Kolliopoulou highlighted the organization’s commitment to fostering leadership and inclusivity. Reflecting on the association’s journey, she remarked: “The recognition of our members’ value by the Greek shipping community reaffirms the importance of our work. Let’s not forget that this association exists because of its members, for its members.”

Recognizing Excellence: The Leadership Award

During the past four years, WISTA Hellas has introduced the Leadership Award to recognize distinguished persons for their efforts toward leadership and inclusivity in the maritime sector. In recognition of her efforts toward the promotion of environmental initiatives and maritime leadership, Semiramis Paliou, CEO of Diana Shipping and President of HELMEPA and INTERMEPA, received the award this year.

Ms Koronaki, a prominent entrepreneur and WISTA Hellas member presented the award to Paliou, who expressed her gratitude with these words: “I accept this award not only as an individual but as a member of a wider community that has inspired and supported me throughout my journey. I invite young women to recognize that there is a professional place for them in the maritime sector.”

The Hellenic Coast Guard Award

The Hellenic Coast Guard Award, instituted to recognize distinguished achievements in training and operational duties, was awarded to Commander Rodianni Giagkidou and Commander Aikaterini Xanthou. Their outstanding achievements were in the areas of training, excellence in operations, and performance in search-and-rescue operations.

Vice Admiral Drosos Reizis presented the awards, while Ms. Kolliopoulou praised the recipients, stating: “The dedication of these officers inspires younger generations and encourages women to pursue careers in critical sectors such as the Coast Guard.”
