Sexual Assault Onboard a Cruise Ship

A woman has allegedly been sexually assaulted by a fellow passenger while on a cruise ship. The ship was on its way to Vanuatu when the incident occurred.

What happened?

The woman was sexually assaulted by a fellow passenger onboard the cruise ship.

The woman reported the incident to the staff of the ship about the sexual assault by another passenger.

On Tuesday morning the cruise ship ‘Explorer of the Seas’ arrived back after a nine-day trip to the South Pacific island nation.

Background: Investigation has been launched

Forensics officials were called to investigate the circumstances and spent hours questioning the witness and taking statements, before it was declared as a crime scene.

The forensic officials collected evidence from the crime scene for further investigation

The staff alerted the police and detectives, who reportedly waiting for the ship to arrive at the Overseas Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay when it docked.

A NSW Police spokesperson told that officers from Marine Area Command were investigating reports of a sexual assault on a cruise ship. He further added, “The incident is alleged to have occurred this month on a recent cruise. The investigation is in its early stages so it’s inappropriate to comment any further”.

Cooperation of cruise ship:

Cruise organisers Royal Caribbean International are assisting police with inquiries and the woman was transported to the hospital to assess her state.
