Akari, the world’s second pure battery bunker tanker, owned and operated by Asahi Tanker, completed its first bunkering operation in Kawasaki on 14 April, supplying the MOL-operated iron ore carrier, UNTA.
The new tanker was delivered on 28 March and sailed from the shipyard in Tokyo Bay to enter into service.
The Akari will conduct zero emission bunkering in the Keihin region alongside the first pure battery tanker, Asahi, which was delivered in March 2022.
