World’s First Hybrid Car ‘Emerald Ace’ Transits Boston Harbour

The Emerald Ace, a 60,200 ton cargo ship built to carry up to 6,400 standard passenger cars passed through Boston Harbor on August 24, reports Northend WaterFront.

First hybrid car

The ship, completed in 2012, is the world’s first hybrid car carrier. 

It has a hybrid electric power supply system that combines a 160kW solar generation system with lithium-ion batteries that can store some 2.2 MWh of electricity. 

At 656 feet long and over 105 feet wide, the ship dwarfs the sailboats off Lewis Wharf!

Emerald Ace is headed across the globe to Singapore. It is expected to arrive on October 6, 2019.
