Cobham Reveals Marine Fire Fighting Radio
The shipping industry is in crucial need of message systems for communicating in poor distinguishability areas during marine accident response. Cobham Satcom has introduced what they claim as the world’s first marine approved portable radio made precisely for firefighting communications. The ocean vessels are in need of these types of radio to fulfil compliance with the new Solas fire fighters communications regulation (Chapter II-2, Regulation 10.10.4).
All ships covered by Solas will need to have intrinsically safe portable radios within the regulated onboard fire fighter outfits, prior to a vessel’s first survey after July 2018.
Mechanical features of Sailor 3965 UHF Fire Fighter:
- The Sailor 3965 UHF Fire Fighter is an inherently safe portable radio.
- It is designed to be detonation proof for use by firefighters wearing suits and gloves, in poor visibility in marine environments.
- The radio features an easy-to-read display for channel and battery information.
- It has large, tactile buttons, and audio confirmation of channel changes in an operator’s headset.
- It also comes with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, and spare emergency battery packs, providing an extra level of security to ensure communication is available when a fire breaks out, or rechargeable batteries run-down.
- It is well-suited with a wide range of established third party accessories, such as headsets, from Savox and Peltor.
Sailor 3965 UHF Firefighter portable radio has a tone coded squelch system to avoid interference from other nearby vessels and trunked mode operation for vessels with a repeater system. It is compatible with a wide range of established third party accessories, such as headsets, from Savox and Peltor.
