  • Jiangnan Shipbuilding delivers its third dual-fuel powered VLEC, GAS ZHUJIANG, for Wanhua Chemical.
  • The 99,000 cubic meter VLEC is the world’s largest with a low-temperature cargo containment system.
  • This breakthrough ship offers eco-friendly benefits, including low fuel consumption and minimal evaporation rates.

On November 15, Jiangnan Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), announced the successful delivery of the third very large ethane carrier (VLEC) in a series. The ship, named GAS ZHUJIANG, was built for Wanhua Chemical Company, marking a significant milestone in the development of dual-fuel-powered VLECs, reports Port News.

Features and Design

GAS ZHUJIANG boasts a massive 99,000 cubic meter capacity, the largest of its kind in the world. Jiangnan Shipbuilding independently developed the VLEC’s core device: the B-type cargo containment system (BrillianceE). T

his system is designed for transporting liquefied gases such as ethane, ethylene, and LPG, and offers numerous operational advantages, including low fuel consumption, small evaporation rates, and reduced maintenance costs.

Technological Excellence

This ship has been recognized for its innovative design and technological advancements. It has earned the Special Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress from the China Shipbuilding Engineering Society.

The vessel is built to offer enhanced efficiency and environmental benefits, making it a leader in its class.

Construction and Efficiency

The construction team at Jiangnan Shipbuilding achieved a remarkable feat by compressing the construction cycle for GAS ZHUJIANG.

Through process reengineering and stage forwarding, they set a new record of just 96 days for the dock construction cycle, showcasing the company’s efficiency and commitment to meeting tight deadlines without compromising quality.
