- Wuhu Shipyard’s Weihai base aims to expand high-end orders, attract key suppliers, and lead in modern, sustainable shipbuilding.
On August 20, Wuhu Shipyard held the launching ceremony of a 37,000 DWT asphalt carrier (Hull No. W23111), built for UAE-based TEODOR SHIPPING at its Weihai base. Measuring 179.9 meters in length with a beam of 30.6 meters, the vessel is now recognized as the world’s largest asphalt carrier by deadweight tonnage. According to IMarine News, the vessel is designed for both efficiency and environmental performance.
Technological Advancements and Future Development
The 37,000 DWT asphalt carrier incorporates innovative paired anchor test technology, supported by SolidWorks 3D modeling software. By creating a full-scale 3D model of the anchor and bow hull, Wuhu Shipyard is able to conduct detailed computer simulations in a virtual environment.
This approach eliminates the need for physical testing, ensuring the safety of both personnel and equipment while avoiding any negative environmental impact. From a design perspective, the method allows for extensive testing and optimization, reducing the need for modifications during final construction. It also supports cost control and technical improvements, ultimately lowering overall shipbuilding expenses and enhancing efficiency at the yard.
Looking ahead, Wuhu Shipyard’s Weihai base plans to align closely with global industry trends and evolving market demand. The shipyard aims to expand its portfolio of high-end shipbuilding orders while attracting more core suppliers to the region. With technological innovation as its main driver, the yard is focusing on large-scale production and the development of high value-added vessels. Through these efforts, Wuhu Shipyard seeks to position itself as a leader in modern shipbuilding, committed to intelligent manufacturing and sustainable, high-quality growth.
