Singapore-based shipping company X-Press Feeders has launched its first methanol dual-fuel container ship, reports engine online.
Dayang shipbuilding
The vessel, Eco Maestro built by China’s New Dayang Shipbuilding was launched at the shipyard last Thursday. The vessel can run on methanol or oil-based conventional marine fuels.
The vessel will undergo further machinery trials in the coming months, X-Press Feeders said in a social media post. It will officially embark on its maiden voyage in Europe in the second quarter of 2024.
Dual fuel container ships
Currently, X-Press Feeders has 14 methanol dual-fuel container ships on order, each with a capacity of 1,250 TEU. All vessels are scheduled for delivery by the third quarter of 2026.
Dutch methanol producer
The container shipping company has also signed an offtake agreement with Dutch methanol producer OCI Global starting next year to purchase bio-methanol for its fleet of methanol-powered vessels.
