Xiushandong Anchorage in Zhoushan has emerged as a major player in China’s bonded bunkering industry, recording an impressive milestone of over 1 million metric tonnes (mt) of annual bunkering volume in 2024. This achievement underscores the anchorage’s growing prominence and operational excellence in the maritime sector, reports Manifold Times.
A Landmark Achievement in 2024
Xiushandong Anchorage recorded 1.1038 million mt of bunkering volume by December 29, 2024, marking a 57.1% year-on-year increase and accounting for 47.1% of Zhoushan’s total bunkering volume.
This milestone was highlighted by the refueling of the Hong Kong-registered bulk carrier GREAT SUI with 1,500 mt of bonded fuel oil.
Key Factors Behind Xiushandong’s Popularity
Xiushandong’s favorable conditions, including minimal disruption from weather and consistent operations for 310 days annually, have made it a preferred choice among Zhoushan’s anchorages.
The introduction of night berthing operations further fueled its growth as a reliable inner anchorage.
Regulatory Support and Operational Upgrades
Zhoushan authorities implemented several measures to enhance Xiushandong’s capabilities, such as:
- Establishing two priority anchorages for simultaneous refueling operations.
- Unifying customs standards for bonded bunker fuels and introducing online rapid approval processes.
- Launching a 24-hour bonded oil service desk to streamline border inspection procedures.
Confidence in the Future of Bunkering
With 25 oil supply anchorages, including two exclusive refueling anchorages added this year, Xiushandong has improved its capacity to handle foreign ships efficiently.
These developments have strengthened the confidence of suppliers like Chimbusco Zhoushan in meeting the rising demand.
