A luxury yacht collided with the cruise ship while docked in Nassau, Bahamas, drawing widespread attention on social media. The incident caused significant damage to the yacht but only minor scrapes to the cruise ship, which resumed its voyage after brief inspections. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the collision, reports Marine Insight.

A Collision at Nassau Port

The luxury yacht hit the cruise ship while the cruise ship was docked in Nassau during a four-day Bahamas trip.

The yacht reportedly lost power and drifted uncontrollably, causing a loud thud as it struck the ship’s port side, scraping the hull and damaging a lifeboat.

Minimal Damage to Cruise Ship

The cruise ship, one of the largest in the world, sustained only minor scrapes. Passengers on the port side witnessed the incident, while those on the other side remained unaware until the captain’s announcement.

The yacht, however, suffered major damage to its mast and radar domes.

Passengers and Social Media React

Videos of the collision, recorded by passengers, quickly circulated on social media. In one clip, a passenger is heard asking the yacht’s crew about their safety.

Discussions among cruise enthusiasts highlighted the technical term for such incidents—“allision”—used when a moving vessel strikes a stationary one.

Quick Inspection and Resumed Itinerary

After the collision, the captain informed passengers of a possible delay for inspections.

However, the ship departed Nassau only an hour later and continued its itinerary, spending a day at sea before returning to Miami on schedule.

Past Incidents and Future Plans

This incident follows other recent events involving the ship, including a passenger overboard during a Taylor Swift-themed cruise in October and a pipe burst causing flooding days earlier.

Scheduled for a $100 million refurbishment in 2025, it is unclear if repairs from this collision will be added to the planned upgrades.
