Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation, founded in 1972, is based in Keelung, Taiwan.  They operate 84 container ships in the 8,250 TEU range and 17 bulk carriers.  They propose to increase their box-ship fleet further.

Yang Ming Line signed a contract with Japan’s Imbari Shipbuilding for five 14,000teu containerships.  These ships are due for delivery by 2018 and 2019.  They will be chartered out to Japanese liner company Shoei Kisen Kaisha Ltd at  a cost price of $125m per vessel.

Yang Ming Line has already ordered for five more 14,000 TEU box-ships with Taiwan-based shipbuilder CSBC Corp. They are due for delivery by 2016.  Considering the economy and cost savings, Yang Ming line, which had earlier planned to build 18,000 to 20,000 TEU box ships, has now switched to 14,000 TEU ships.
