Yang Ming’s Board of Directors has approved a strategic initiative to modernize the company’s container fleet by commissioning a new set of containers. The objective is to address operational efficiency and sustainability goals, according to Container News.

Operational and Cost Benefits

The container replacement program is designed to reduce maintenance and repair costs, minimize cargo damage, and improve overall transport capacity. It aims to meet current operational demands more effectively, as per Yang Ming’s official statement.

Sustainable Container Features

The new batch, comprising ISO dry containers, refrigerated units, and specialized equipment, is expected to be delivered in 2025. These containers will incorporate sustainable materials such as eco-friendly bamboo flooring, which helps combat deforestation and ecological impact. Additionally, waterborne coatings will be used to substantially cut down emissions of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).

Energy-Efficient Refrigerated Units

The upcoming reefer units will integrate inverter compressor technology to enhance energy efficiency and reduce electricity use compared to traditional models. Furthermore, some units will adopt the low-GWP R513A refrigerant, a move expected to significantly lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions during routine operations.
