Yang Ming to receive Smart Ship notations from international classification societies for ten of its 2,800TEU container vessels, says an article published in Container News.
Smart Ship notations
Yang Ming announced that its ten 2,800TEU container vessels that are currently being constructed by CSBC, will receive Smart Ship notations from international classification societies.
Starting this year, these ships will be delivered and deployed to the company’s intra-Asia services.
Award for the technology equipment
Below listed are the organisations that will award notations to the YM container ships for their technology equipment:
- ABS,
- DNV GL,
- Bureau Veritas (BV) and
- Classification Society (CR),
- a Taiwanese non-governmental and non-profit class society, that is not a member of the International Association of Classification Societies.
Vessels to receive ABS notations
The first batch of containerships that will be awarded ABS Smart notations in the world receive are:
- YM Celebrity,
- YM Continent,
- YM Certainty,
- YM Credibility and
- YM Continuity.
About the notation
The notations include Smart INF (Data INFrastructure for Smart Function implementation) & Smart SHM (Structural Health Monitoring).
Data acquisition and transmission
Yang Ming says that the recognition means that these vessels are equipped with
- smart information infrastructure of big data acquisition and
- cloud transmission.
Safe sailing
This enables ship structure endurance monitoring and future structural health awareness through ABS’s customised analysis programme to ensure sailing safety.
Vessels to receive DNV GL’s notation
The first three vessels to receive DNV GL’s SmartShip notations in Taiwan are:
- YM Centennial,
- YM Capacity and
- YM Cooperation.
About the notation
The notations include:
- SmartShip OE (Operating Enhancement) and
- PE (Performance Enhancement).
This means that these ships are equipped with advanced technologies such as:
- improving container load flexibility with route specific container stowage and
- fuel saving with trim optimisation.
The Taiwan-based liner company stated that the technologies will enhance vessel performance and effectively reduce GHG (greenHouse gas).
BV notation
The first two vessels to receive the BV SMARTSHIP (MACHINERY 1) notation are:
- YM Credential and
- YM Constancy.
About the notation
The notation indicates that the ships are equipped with :
- an integrated computer-based system for the controlling and monitoring of the automated installations of periodically unattended machinery spaces, and
- they are equipped with monitoring devices allowing reduced scope of tailshaft survey.
CR notation
The seven boxships to be certified by CR with “Smartship H, Et, I” notations are:
- YM Continent,
- YM Credential,
- YM Centennial,
- YM Capacity,
- YM Certainty,
- YM Credibility and
- YM Continuity.
About the notation
The notation indicates that the ships features functions of:
- smart hull-structural health estimation,
- smart energy efficiency-trim optimisation, and
- a smart integration platform.
