Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group has entrusted TMC Compressors (TMC) to deliver energy-efficient Smart Air compressors for six dual-fuel container vessels being built for Maersk. These vessels mark a significant step in Maersk’s green transformation journey, aiming to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040.

Contract Details

  • TMC’s Contribution:
    • TMC will supply a marine compressed air system based on Smart Air compressors, which promise up to 40% energy savings over conventional systems.
    • The system includes control and service air compressors designed with frequency-controlled technology, ensuring precise speed adjustments to match real-time air volume requirements, significantly reducing power consumption.

Vessel Specifications

  • Dual-Fuel Capability:
    • The six 9,000 TEU vessels will feature dual-fuel engines, enabling operation on both conventional fuel oil and green methanol.
  • Environmental Impact:
    • When fueled by green methanol, these vessels are projected to reduce Maersk’s annual greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 450,000 tons of CO2e.
  • Delivery Timeline:
    • Yangzijiang Shipbuilding will deliver the vessels in 2026 and 2027.
