  • Innovative Carbon Management: Yinson and Provaris Target CO2 Transit Solutions.
  • Collaborative Efforts to Revolutionize CO2 Tank Design and Carbon Capture Market.
  • Provaris and Yinson to Explore Hydrogen Derivatives and CO2 Transport Innovations.

Australian company Provaris Energy is collaborating with Yinson Production, an independent owner and operator of floating, production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessels, to explore the possibility of adapting Provaris’ proprietary tank design for compressed hydrogen as alternative solutions for bulk-scale storage and transportation of compressed and liquid CO2, reports Offshore Energy

Joint Partnership to Evaluate CO2 and Hydrogen Derivative Tank Designs

Under a recently signed two-year binding agreement, Provaris Energy and Yinson Production have partnered up to explore the technical as well as economic feasibility for using the proprietary compressed hydrogen tank designs of Provaris for tanks.

This will eventually be used in storage as well as transport of CO2. The collaboration will also study the possibility of producing other hydrogen derivatives, ammonia.

Addressing the Challenges of CO2 Transportation

Currently, there are no low-pressure and low-temperature ship transport solutions for CO2. Adequate capability for long sailing distances and large cargo volumes available.

Consequently, Provaris and Yinson shall progress with an innovative CO2 tank design. It has to help overcome the limitations of the limitations facing CO2 transport and storage.

Leveraging Expertise in FPSO and Marine Storage

The potential combination was that of combined knowledge and that of Provaris in bulk marine storage and transportation, it had all this expertise, especially with regards to its H2Neo Carrier, which stores compressed gaseous hydrogen, with Yinson Production’s skills in building FPSO vessels for the offshore production industry.

Not to forget, bringing together the leaders from respective industries would possibly bring solutions from the still-emergent carbon capture and sequestration market.

Driving the Carbon Value Chain

Expanding into carbon capture and sequestration as the As part of Yinson Production’s continuing expansion, this partnership will help in coming up with cost-effective and scalable solutions for storing and transporting CO2. Likewise, both parties are keen on responding to the increasing need for sustainable carbon management.

Lars Gunnar Vogt, Yinson Production’s Chief Technical Officer, commented: We recognize the importance of carbon capture and storage in achieving global emission targets, and we’re committed to playing a key role in this space. Our collaboration with Provaris Energy will leverage our combined expertise to develop cost-competitive and innovative solutions for CO2 storage and transportation.”

A Step Forward in Commercializing Tank Technology

Martin Carolan, Provaris’ Managing Director and CEO, said This is an extremely exciting partnership and highlights the transferable technology and design of Provaris’ proprietary tank IP and shipping solutions. The CO2 market is already well-developed and seeking cutting-edge, scalable and cost-effective storage and transport solutions.”

“We are grateful to be working alongside another reputable partner in Yinson, as we broaden the focus and application of our advanced development in proprietary tanks. This opportunity allows Provaris to explore alternate pathways in the commercialization of its tank technology in partnership with an industry leader in the offshore industry.”
