Yinson GreenTech, a leader in sustainable maritime technology, has partnered with Zeabuz AS, a pioneer in autonomous maritime solutions, to advance the integration of remote-control and autonomous capabilities in Yinson’s fleet of electric vessels. Formalized at the Singapore Norway Innovation Conference with a signed Letter of Intent, this collaboration is a significant milestone in Yinson’s efforts to decarbonize the maritime industry in Singapore by combining the strengths of electrification and autonomous operations.

Pioneering Sustainable Maritime Solutions

This partnership aims to transform Yinson GreenTech’s marinEV fleet by embedding Zeabuz’s advanced software algorithms and hardware systems into their electric vessels. The integration of autonomous capabilities is intended to create intelligent and crew-optimized marine transport solutions that offer sustainable and cost-effective operations.

Jan-Viggo Johansen, Managing Director of Yinson GreenTech’s marinEV, and Øyvind Smogeli, CEO and Co-Founder of Zeabuz, highlighted the potential of this venture. Johansen emphasized that by leveraging autonomous solutions, the collaboration would reduce the environmental impact of maritime operations, while Smogeli noted that the partnership would lay the groundwork for a future of sustainable, technology-driven marine transport.

Addressing Workforce and Regulatory Goals in Maritime

A key aspect of this collaboration is addressing workforce challenges in the maritime sector. By incorporating autonomous technology, the vessels will reduce crew dependency, enabling more efficient operations while creating new roles that focus on skills in AI, machine learning, and remote supervision. This aligns closely with Singapore’s Industry Transformation Map under the Maritime and Port Authority (MPA), which advocates digitalization as a critical strategy for industry evolution.

Commitment to Regulatory Compliance and Education

Both companies are also committed to working with Singapore’s regulatory framework. As autonomous operations in maritime transport are relatively new, Yinson GreenTech and Zeabuz aim to adhere to MPA standards and contribute to the regulatory landscape. Additionally, by partnering with local educational institutions, they plan to build the industry’s capacity to safely deploy autonomous electric vessels on a larger scale.
