In a significant boost to port logistics efficiency, Mitsubishi Logisnext Co., Ltd., a member of the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Group, has launched a next-generation container terminal gate system at Yumeshima Container Terminal (DICT) in Osaka. Operational since February 2025, this advanced infrastructure is aimed at reducing congestion and optimizing cargo flow—especially important with the upcoming Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan.

Cutting-Edge Gate System Enhances Terminal Efficiency

The newly introduced gate, developed as part of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism’s “2024 Osaka Port Yumeshima Container Terminal CT Gate Advanced Project”, is the first of its kind at the Port of Osaka to incorporate Mitsubishi Logisnext’s high-functionality design.

The gate system replaces outdated manual processes with a smart, AI-driven workflow, significantly improving the handling of trailer and container entry/exit operations.

Key Technologies Introduced

  • 5G-Enabled Handheld Terminals: These terminals communicate directly with administrative computers, eliminating the need for paper documentation and manual verification.

  • AI-Based Image Recognition: Two overhead cameras capture images for automatic identification of containers and trailers, greatly reducing human error and processing time.

  • Browser-Based Operations: Legacy client-specific apps have been transitioned to browser-compatible versions, making it easier to operate, update, and modify the system across different devices.

Contribution to Expo 2025 and Urban Traffic Management

By integrating with the new CONPAS port information system, the gate technology allows real-time access to vehicle and container data. This will help alleviate traffic congestion around the Expo 2025 venue, which is located adjacent to the terminal. Smoother logistics operations are expected to enhance both security and visitor experience during the event.

Supporting the Future of AI Terminals in Japan

With a strong market presence in Japan’s port logistics sector, Mitsubishi Logisnext continues to leverage its technical expertise to develop AI-supported terminal solutions. The company remains committed to enhancing operational efficiency and safety while reducing environmental and urban impacts through smarter infrastructure.
