  • Zodiac Maritime is preparing for its 50th anniversary in 2026 with a significant fleet expansion.
  • The company emphasizes a strong family ethos, long-service culture, and cadet training as key strengths.
  • Under third-generation leadership, Zodiac continues to grow with a diverse, modern fleet.

Zodiac Maritime, the UK’s largest shipmanager, is entering a new phase of growth as it approaches its 50th year of operations in 2026. The company has invested heavily in its fleet, adding 17 new vessels since the start of this year, including newbuildings, secondhand acquisitions, and efficiency upgrades. This expansion brings its managed fleet to 170 ships across sectors such as containerships, dry cargo, LPG, tankers, and vehicle carriers, according to Lloyd’s List.

Leadership and Family Ethos

Chief operating officer Tanuj Luthra, who joined Zodiac in 2024 after a 25-year career at Maersk, highlighted the company’s family-oriented culture as a distinguishing feature. He noted the exceptional longevity of service among seafaring staff, with over 200 long-service awards presented this year alone, including 80 to officers with more than two decades at the firm. According to Luthra, this commitment to people is central to Zodiac’s success. Initiatives such as its annual scholarship programme, which supports the higher education of employees’ and seafarers’ children, reinforce its family ethos and help attract new talent in a competitive industry.

Growth and Heritage

Founded in London in 1976 by Sammy Ofer KBE, Zodiac Maritime has consistently expanded under the leadership of the Ofer family. Now led by chief executive Daniel Ofer, representing the third generation, the company remains firmly rooted in the UK and is the largest trainer of British cadets. The fleet, already notable for its diversity, has an average age of just nine years, which will decrease further as more new vessels are delivered and older ships phased out. This strategy reflects Zodiac’s resilience, foresight, and determination to stay ahead in a changing maritime industry.
