On September 22, a bunker tanker ran aground on a coast southeast of Novorossiysk, Russia, Black Sea.
The bunker tanker ‘Gazpromneft Zuid-West’ ran aground on a coast southeast of Novorossiysk, Russia, Black Sea. The tanker was en route from Novorossiysk to Tuapse when the incident occurred.
Bridge watch failure
The reason for the vessel running aground has been attributed to failure in bridge watch. The vessel is reported to have hit ground after it headed straight for the coast at full speed, most probably because of bridge watch failure.
An investigation has been launched to determine the sequence of events leading to the grounding incident and determine the further course of action.
